Default Dapple Dandy Pluot

As I have been looking around at various gardening forums to learn more about the various berries and fruit trees I have been planting I saw Pluot and Apriums talked about a lot. I was interested but you just don’t see them in the supermarkets around here.

Last week one of the big box stores had a box of Pluots so I brought them home to try them out. They were so unbelievably good I just had to find out more about them. I did a few searches by the brand and found they were close or the same as the Dapple Dandy from Dave Wilson Nursery. I found out they would grow well here so I had to have one.

Yesterday I stopped by my local Green Thumb and the first tree I grabbed the tag of and looked at was a Dapple Dandy.

Next will be a Santa Rosa plum to pollinate it. I know it's a little late in the year to plant it but with a little tlc it should do just fine.

Congratulations.

I planted a Flavor King Pluot last year, next to my Santa Rosa Plum, and I have fruit on it this year. The fruit isn't quite ripe yet, but the nearly ripe ones I have sampled are wonderful.

I picked up a Santa Rosa plum earlier today. I got a 7' tree on sale for $15. Can't beat that. I spent the afternoon removing a stump that was where I wanted to plant it about 10' from the Pluot. I will plant it some time tomorrow.

Next summer I should have a lot to post about.

It looks like you have room for more fruit trees on that slope. What else do you intend to plant? My newest plantings are two cherry trees, Royal Lee and Minnie Royal. They are recently introduced low chill cherries that would do well in your yard too.

I think I'm done planting for this year. I now have 10 fruit trees in my yard. As soon as the 2010 season is ready I want to add a Royal Rainier. I have a Rainier but I'm on the border if I will get enough chill hours for it. I also have a Bing and a Stella.

My wife and I buy two packs of Rainiers every week at Costco and two packs of Blueberries. I think about half the time the cherries are actually Royals by the color but I can't be sure. All I know is we both love the taste and will be sad when the run out for the season.

I have to get rid of a few gophers before I try on the hillside. I have three traps set this weekend. I have a few pines and a California Pepper I just planted. I cut down a 20' pine my wife was worried about because it leaned so much.

I pulled out a lot of unwanted plants this summer and added the fruit trees after my garden did so well.

Well, I stopped by my local Green Arrow nursery on my way home from work and they had a large shipment of bare roots from Dave Wilsons. I searched for what I wanted and the last bundle I looked at had a bunch of Royal Rainiers.

I bought two of the 3/4" ones on Colt rootstock.
